First of all thank you for your purchase of this guide to starting a marine fish aquarium and a huge welcome to this fantastic hobby.

Starting a marine fish aquarium is challenging, educational and rewarding - I am absolutely positive that you will get countless hours of personal satisfaction.

The ocean is full of an array of fascinating species. It was not so long ago that having the ability to keep these animals in your own home was seen as a dream. Nowadays, however, this is an altogether different story. We now have the ability to create our very own little slice of the ocean in our very own home.

The marine aquarium is becoming more and more popular and there is at present an abundance of products available to the marine aquarist. The continuous improvement of old technology and the introduction of new technology can leave many potential marine hobbyists bewildered, confused and sometimes unfortunately put off the idea of starting a marine aquarium. The people who get past the array of technology available are then confronted with the next area of confusion – conflicting advice. Whether this is from physical books, the internet, friends, colleagues etc a new marine aquarist will certainly encounter advice given that is so different that this hobby at times appears to be impossible.

All of this is well before an aquarium is purchased and even gets any water in it!

This guide was designed to help anyone who is considering establishing a marine fish only system and hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls which are encountered in such a project.

The guide details everything that you need to know to start a salt water marine fish aquarium; there are of course areas which can be performed in multiple ways. When this occurs some other methods will be discussed and you will be able to choose the method which is suitable for you.

Anyway on with the guide - let’s get onto the interesting stuff!
